Robbery at Seaside Heights

By Nicole-Amanda Merchan

Authorities say that a man seen under a surveillance camera used his 3 year old granddaughter to steal a purse. This happened at an arcade called “Lucky Leo’s” in Seaside Heights at around midnight.  The man pushed the little girl with his foot under a swinging door.  Police say that the man was carrying a skateboard and has shoulder-length brown hair.

A few days later they arrested Daniel Twomey, 52, in Connecticut sleeping in his car at a McDonalds parking lot.  Police tracked him down by using a signal coming from the cell phone he had stolen. He was traced to that area and arrested.

Twomey faces charges for endangering a welfare of a child who could have became a robber.  His bail was set to $150,000 upon Twomey’s arrest.

St. John's Rifle Scare

By Erica Butts

Wednesday, September 25 2007 Omesh Hiraman, 22 took a cab from his East Elmhurst home in New York to St. John's University with a .50 caliber one-shot rifle in a garbage bag wearing a rubber mask.

"It's 9/11 aftermath," his lawyer said.  "He changed after 9/11 and went downhill. It's not Columbine. This is not Virginia Tech. This is something that goes on every day on the streets of America, someone who is mentally ill and needs help."

On September 11th 2001, Hiraman's Senior high school class gathered outside for class pictures just moments before the 9/11 attacks.  Hiraman ran north for two miles until he was lost, which sent him on a 'downward spiral' from which he's never recovered.

Later, Hiraman told police he was schizophrenic and not taking his medication.

He is being held on two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a lethal weapon, a misdemeanor, and violations including possession of a rifle without a permit of registration.  He faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

ARTS & LEISURE

Halo 3

By Julian Baldwin

Do you know who this is?  If you don’t, you need to get with the times. This is the central figure of the video game industry.  I am of course talking about the best game series ever.  One word: Halo.

The newest (and most highly anticipated) game in the Halo series, Halo 3, is being talked about all over the world.  There has been over 1.1 million pre-orders in the USA alone and over 6.4 million copies sold in the USA (these are not exact numbers; this is just based on all of the Halo fans in the USA).  Go ahead and judge us because we’re Halo fans.  It’s an awesome game. Don’t believe us?  Go to the store and pick up a copy of Halo 3 for $60.  Enjoy it, because it’s the last game in the series.

Law & Order: CI Premiere

By Lexi Leonard

Last night I watched the season premiere of Law & Order.  The episode was about a man who was trying to smuggle drugs in and out of countries through his girlfriend.  Also he had the customs officials in on the scheme. It was awesome however I’ve convinced myself that detective Logan has lost his mind because last night he got so twisted up inside the investigation.  He kept on saying how he knew what was happening but the only thing was he couldn’t prove it.  So in all his rage of trying to prove his accusations were correct, he went ballistic on his partner.  I think that they're just going to have him get counseling because without him there is no Law & Order.  So that’s all for this week just have to wait till next week and find out what happens I’ll keep you posted.

Dice K. Teletubby

By John Kluepfel

After a 4-3 loss the Red Sox needed a laugh.  Mike Lowell made him do it, so Daisuke is now a teletubby.  I think he is the red one (ha-ha).  Dice K might want to stay in the suit because he is not used to the 162 game season.
